Cruise Ship Resources
Good sources for getting a picture of the industry:
Cruise Critic ( www.cruisecritic.com ) An in-depth site for people who like to cruise. The
message boards are excellent, with detailed critical opinions and information on ships, is-
lands and more.
Cruise Junkie ( www.cruisejunkie.com ) An excellent site that provides a well-rounded
view of the industry, including safety and environmental issues.
Yacht
Many visitors arrive by yacht to the Virgin Islands. The main marinas are at the Moorings
in Road Town, Tortola; and at American Yacht Harbor in Red Hook, St Thomas. Plenty of
others scatter throughout the islands.
» Upon reaching the USVI, you must clear immigration and customs unless you are coming
directly from a US port or Puerto Rico. You can clear US customs at Charlotte Amalie (St
Thomas), Cruz Bay (St John) or Christiansted or Frederiksted (St Croix).
» To clear customs and immigration in the BVI, you must stop at Great Harbour (Jost Van
Dyke), Spanish Town (Virgin Gorda) or Sopers Hole or Road Town (both on Tortola).
» The Virgin Islands' drug-smuggling problem is such that you should anticipate the pos-
sibility of being boarded and searched by the US Coast Guard.
