BVI
Everyone needs a passport to enter the BVI by air. US citizens who enter the BVI by
ferry can also opt for using the less-expensive passport card; see the WesternHemisphere
Travel Initiative ( www.getyouhome.gov ) for more information. All other nationalities
need a passport to enter by ferry.
Whether arriving by air or sea, you'll go through BVI immigration and customs. Offi-
cials might ask to see a return ticket and proof of funds, though that's rare. It can take a half
hour or so to clear customs. If you're arriving on a ferry, you'll clear through a customs
house( www.bviports.org ) near the dock.
BVI DEPARTURE TAX - AIR
You must pay a $20 departure tax to leave the BVI by air. This is not included in the
ticket price, and must be paid separately at the airport.

Airports
St Thomas has the Virgin Islands' main airport. Tortola and St Croix are the region's other
gateways. All of the airports are modern, yet small, facilities. Virgin Gorda and Anegada
also have airports; they're tiny and used for private charters only.
