Entering the Country
Passport
USVI
US citizens do not need a passport to visit the US Virgin Islands, but all other nationalities
do. Entering the territory is straightforward: anyone arriving on a plane from the US main-
land or Puerto Rico simply walks off and heads to their destination - there are no immigra-
tion procedures - but when departing the USVI, everyone must clear immigration and cus-
toms before boarding the plane. Visitors from the US will be asked to show photo identific-
ation (such as a driver's license) and proof of US citizenship (such as an official, raised-seal
birth certificate).
If traveling to any other Caribbean country (besides Puerto Rico, which, like the USVI, is
a US territory), US citizens must have a valid passport to re-enter the US by air. If re-enter-
ing via a sea border, US visitors have the option of using a less-expensive passport card. See
the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative ( www.getyouhome.gov ) for further informa-
tion.
