HOTELS
» Your best bets for moderately priced hotels are in Charlotte Amalie, Christiansted, Fre-
deriksted, Road Town and Cane Garden Bay. These towns have a number of medium-size,
well- tended hotels with pools, air-conditioning, cable TV and rates starting at about $125
per night.
» For the most part, island hotels categorize themselves as 'luxury' or 'deluxe' establish-
ments, and rooms run to more than $250 per night during the high season, unless you have
a tour package.
» The Virgin Islands also offer several truly exclusive retreats on private cays like Guana
Island and Peter Island, where rates start at $750 per night.
» Hotel rack rates are not written in stone. Call the property and ask about any specials that
might apply. Members of AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons)
or AAA (the American Automobile Association) might qualify for a 10% discount at hotel
chains such as Best Western.
RENTAL ACCOMMODATIONS
» Condominiums, villas and apartments are widely available throughout the islands.
» Properties are usually located in prime resort areas and offer attractive, well-furnished
units with a separate bedroom, kitchen, living space and great views.
» These are ideal if you're traveling with your family or a large group, because you have
room to stretch out, do your own cooking and enjoy plenty of privacy.
» Properties range toward the top-end for costs, though you might find a few one-bedroom
places for $250 per night or two-bedroom places for $400 per night. Rentals are usually by
the week.
