Mosquito Island
This 125-acre island looks like a green gumdrop and guards the entrance to Virgin Gorda's
North Sound. Mosquito takes its name from the Miskito Indian tribe who left relics here.
It is a private island that remains largely undeveloped…for now. Richard Branson bought
it a few years ago, and plans reportedly are underway to turn Mosquito into an ecoresort
with 20 villas and a beachfront restaurant powered by wind turbines and solar panels. Stay
tuned.
