strolling, but the centerpiece of the resort is the Sugarcane Restaurant, with its swim-up bar
overlooking Drake Channel. You will want a rental Jeep if you stay here, as Nail Bay is
secluded and at the end of a long, rough road. Some units have wi-fi.
North Sound
Beyond the mid-island mountains is North Sound, Virgin Gorda's only other settlement be-
sides Spanish Town. It's main job is to serve the big resorts and myriad yachts anchored
in the surrounding bays. A mini-armada of ferries tootle back and forth from the Sound's
Gun Creek to Bitter End Yacht Club and Saba Rock Resort, both excellent for a happy hour
drink and sea views at their bars, even if you're not staying there.
Beaches
Berchers Bay , a reef-protected beach, stretches along the ocean side of the Biras Creek
Resort. It's your best beach option if you're staying at or visiting Biras Creek or the Bitter
End Yacht Club.
You need a boat to access PricklyPearIsland in North Sound (it's possible to rent one;
see the listed boat trip outfitters). On the island's south side, you'll find VixenPoint , with
a long, broad stretch of white sand, sheltered swimming and a beach bar. There is also a
secluded beach on the north side of Prickly Pear. And the island's name? It comes from all
the cacti dotting the salt-ponded landscape.
Activities
North Sound's protected waters make it top-notch for all manner of splashy activities. Bit-
ter End and Leverick Bay are ground zero for the action.

Bitter End Yacht Club
( www.beyc.com ) It has the biggest collection of watercraft for rent, including kayaks,
Hobie Waves, windsurfers and 11ft Boston Whalers, to name just a few, for $40 to $50
