Eating
Sugar Mill Restaurant INTERNATIONAL $$$
( 284-495-4355; www.sugarmillhotel.com ; Apple Bay; mains $28-38; dinner)
The Sugar Mill restaurant wins our award as Tortola's best. Owners Jeff and Jinx Morgan,
contributing writers for Bon Appétit magazine, oversee the menu, cooking and presentation
of meals in the restored boiling house of the plantation's rum distillery. Here you dine by
candlelight on haute cuisine, with dishes like wild mushrooms in puffed pastry or leg of
lamb with roasted peppers, spinach and feta filling, brought out by ace servers. Wines,
cocktails and decadent desserts complete the sensory experience. Reservations are a must.
Jolly Roger PIZZA, SEAFOOD $$
( 284-495-4559; www.jollyrogerbvi.com ; SopersHole;mains$12-30; breakfast,
lunch & dinner, closed Aug & Sep) Located near the West End ferry landing, the JR (as
they call it) has a hearty waterfront pub scene in the evening and serves food long after most
of the competition's kitchens have closed. Pizza is the popular beer chaser here, though
the chefs serve up delicious grilled fish with Asian-tinged sauces, too. Locals and travelers
flock to the Caribbean barbecue and live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Sebastian's on the Beach INTERNATIONAL $$
( 284-495-4212; www.sebastiansbvi.com ; Little Apple Bay; mains $17-33;
breakfast, lunch & dinner; ) Sebastian's has been a favorite of travelers for years,
offering beachfront dining for all three meals. Banana pancakes and rum-soaked French
toast hit the plates for breakfast, rotis and burgers for lunch, and spicy chicken wings,
stewed conch and vegetarian casserole for dinner.
