Big Banana BURGERS, SEAFOOD $$
( 284-495-4606; Cane Garden Bay; mains $18-34; breakfast, lunch & dinner)
The Big Banana is one of the largest, busiest and loudest restaurant-bars on the beach,
serving up dishes like coconut shrimp, BBQ chicken and ribs. There's pizza, too.
Quito's Gazebo SEAFOOD $$
( 284-495-4837;CaneGardenBay;mains$16-33; lunch&dinner,closedMon)
Set on the beach, Quito's is a legendary pub due to its namesake, calypso-crooning owner.
The food is fine: rotis, conch fritters and fresh salads make for popular light lunches. At
night, grilled items such as snapper fill the menu.
Mountain View INTERNATIONAL $$
( 284-495-9536;RidgeRd;mains$11-28; lunch&dinner) High on the mountain
at the entrance to the trails at Sage Mountain National Park, this restaurant serves dishes
like chicken roti and curried conch. It works best as a lunchtime destination after a hike;
dinner is by request only. The name doesn't lie: the view of Tortola and the surrounding
islands impresses.
Entertainment
Cane Garden Bay is Tortola's hot spot for live music. Check the free weekly tabloid Limin'
Times ( www.limin-times.com ) or the website BVI Music ( www.bvimusic.com ) to find
out what's on. Or just stroll down the beach and listen for the sounds that groove you.
The volume really ratchets up when Cane Garden Bay hosts the BVI Music Festival
( www.bvimusicfestival.com ) and big name players descend on the village in late May.
Quito's Gazebo LIVE MUSIC
( 284-495-4837; Cane Garden Bay) This bar-restaurant takes its name from its pree-
minent act, Quito Rymer, whose band has toured with Ziggy Marley. You can dance up a
storm to Quito's reggae rhythms, and hundreds pack the restaurant on weekends to do just
that. The crowd ranges from 16 to 60 and is a rich blend of travelers, expats, yacht crews
and West Indians. Quito plays solo on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm, and with his group
on Friday at 9:30pm.
