Eating
Many of the beach restaurants turn into bars at night, offering live music, dancing or just
solid boozing time.
Mrs Scatliffe's Restaurant WEST INDIAN $$$
( 284-495-4556; Carrot Bay; mains $29-36; dinner) Senior citizen Mrs Scatliffe
serves West Indian dishes on her deck, using fruits and veggies she yanks straight from her
garden. You must call for reservations before 5pm, since she'll be making the chicken-in-
coconut or conch soup just for you. Dinner will be at 7pm, and Mrs S will be singing gospel
songs to accompany the meal. Suffice to say it's a one-of-a-kind experience. She's in the
yellow building across from the primary school, about a hundred yards up a bushy street
off the North Coast Rd. Cash only.
Palm's Delight WEST INDIAN $$
( 284-495-4863; Carrot Bay; mains $9-18; dinner) Located right on the water's
edge, this family-style West Indian restaurant serves up great cheap eats and local ambi-
ence. The menu includes pates, rotis, fish Creole and 'honey stung' chicken. Friday nights
provide a lively scene, with families eating on the patio and a bar crowd watching cricket
or baseball on the TV.
