On Sunday afternoon, less than a mile north of Frederiksted on Rte
63, Rhythms has live reggae and R&B in a beachside setting. The scene draws a lot of the
island's hard bodies to party on, dude.

Dangers & Annoyances
Be mindful: lonely beaches are no place to go without a group of friends. In particular, stay
away from the Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge at the southwest corner of the island.
A red-light district exists in Frederiksted on King St for three blocks or so south of the in-
tersection with Market St.
Getting There & Away
Taxi
Frederiksted's taxi stand is at Market Square. It can take up to an hour to drive between
here and Christiansted (fare from $24, depending on number of passengers).
West End
The area around Frederiksted has two very distinct sides to its topography and character.
First, there are the wild mountains and beaches of the so-called rainforest area in the is-
land's northwest pocket. South of the mountains is the broad coastal plain that once hosted
the majority of sugar plantations. Today, the area is largely a modern commercial and resid-
ential zone where most of St Croix's population lives, but sprinkled among the few patches
of undeveloped land bordering Centerline Rd are some remarkable heirlooms from the co-
lonial era, including the Whim Plantation.
