most islanders shop at the supermarkets on Centerline Rd. On most days, you will find
fresh produce in the market shed on the southeast corner, and this can be a good place to

St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church CHURCH
(near Market St & Hospital St) This Catholic church lies a block east of Market Square.
It's interesting because of its unusual synthesis of architectural styles. Built in 1848, with a
three-story brick bell tower, it is basically Gothic Revival, but the gabled ends of the nave
and transept are reminiscent of the Spanish Mission style. A high masonry wall encloses
the church and its cemetery. Masses are in English and Spanish.
St Paul's Episcopal Anglican Church CHURCH
(near Hospital St & King Cross St) The church dates from 1812 and is the oldest house
of worship in town. Although much of the church has its roots in Danish colonial neoclassi-
cism, the most outstanding part of the structure is its crenellated English Gothic bell tower.

not only a small library inside but also a cultural center that supports local arts and crafts
events. It is a good stop if you want a peek inside Frederiksted's Victorian buildings.
Beaches

Sand Castle Beach is the nickname for the strand in front of the Sand Castle on the
Beach and Cottages by the Sea lodgings, about a mile south of Frederiksted along the wa-
terfront road. It provides calm water, good snorkeling and great sunsets.
LaGrange , Rainbow and SpratHallBeaches are north of Fort Frederik Beach on Rte
63. They're all actually the same beach, but you can get a beer at the south end, where there
