Diving

here . Most dive operators are based in Christiansted or Frederiksted. CaneBayDiveShop
( 340-773-9913,800-338-3843; www.canebayscuba.com ) is an exception, with a shop
across the highway from Cane Bay Beach.
Kayaking
Paddling Salt River Bay is a St Croix highlight. Day tours provide history on the Columbus
site and its early inhabitants, as well as nature lessons on the area's rich bird life. Evening
tours glide through the river's bioluminescent water while knowledgeable guides share loc-
al legends, folktales and ghost stories. Note the bioluminescence is best viewed during cer-
tain phases of the moon; call for the schedule. The companies listed here provide similar
tours ($45 to $50 per person, two to three hours). The first two groups also rent kayaks
(single/double per day $30/40).
