Several resorts rise on the East End's shores. You'll need a car if you plan on leaving the
grounds.
Buccaneer HOTEL $$$
( 340-712-2100, 800-255-3881; www.thebuccaneer.com ; r incl breakfast from
$310; ) The Buccaneer set the standard for Virgin Islands beach resorts back
in the 1950s and still supplies plenty of luxury. There are 134 rooms in a complex of build-
ings and cottages surrounding the main three-story hotel that overlooks a cove and beach.
The Buccaneer is geared for the active resort guest, with golf, tennis, water sports and a
health spa, plus a children's program. Rates include free breakfast, in-room wi-fi, snorkel
gear and kayaks. Four restaurants on the grounds provide a wide range of fare. Celebrities
have long favored this resort. It's on East End Rd (Rte 82), about 2 miles from Christi-
ansted.
Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort HOTEL $$$
( 340-773-9700, 877-773-9700; www.divicarina.com ; r incl meals from $400;
) There are 180 oceanfront rooms, suites and one-bedroom villas at this resort.
Teal-toned fabrics, wicker furniture, kitchenettes and satellite TVs outfit the pleasing units.
Divi offers a lot of entertainment options: guests can choose from four restaurants and bars,
two pools, a 1000ft beach, tennis courts, water sports, a mini-golf course and the island's
only casino. Wi-fi is free in the public areas; it's available in some rooms, too, but you'll
need to ask for it. There is a minimum three-night stay in high season. The resort is on Rte
60 at Grapetree Bay, on the southeast coast.
Chenay Bay Beach Resort APARTMENTS $$

Rising above the swells at Chenay Bay, this complex of 50 efficiency cottages (part of
a timeshare complex) may well be the favorite destination of vacationing families on St
Croix. The West Indian-style rooms have a satellite TV, refrigerator, stovetop and mi-
crowave. Sports equipment for snorkeling and kayaking are free, as is tennis. A restaurant
on-site serves reasonably priced meals.
