Hotel on the Cay HOTEL $$
( 340-773-2035,800-524-2035; www.hotelonthecay.com ;r$150-190; ) A
truly cool place to stay, this hotel sits just offshore on the sandy islet of Protestant Cay, ac-
cessible by a five-minute ferry ride (free for guests). It's good value for the spacious rooms
with full kitchenettes, cooking utensils and bright tropical decor. The pièce de résistance:
private balconies for taking in cool breezes, hearing waves lap the shore and watching pel-
icans dive-bomb for fish. True, the rooms are a bit dated, but they're slated to undergo

a crowd for good reason. Wi-fi is in the public areas only.

( 340-773-1377; www.companyhousehotel.com ; 2 Company St; d incl breakfast
$115; ) Company House is the value pick of the downtown hotels. It is the sister
property of King Christian Hotel, and as such guests have access to that entity's fitness cen-
ter and continental breakfast. Rooms at Company House don't have views, a private deck
or waterfront locale, but they're newly renovated, well maintained and offer free in-room
wi-fi. To feel classy, take a seat at the piano bar in the lobby.
Club Comanche Hotel HOTEL $$
( 340-773-0210; www.clubcomanche.com ; 1 Strand St; r $135-165; ) This
downtown property is set in a 250-year-old Danish mansion - once home to Alexander
Hamilton (see boxed text, Click here ) - and has been lodging guests since 1948. The 23
rooms have been renovated recently with West Indian antique decor, new beds, flat-screen
