Sweet Plantains FUSION $$
( 340-777-4653; www.sweetplantains-stjohn.com ; Rte 107; mains $16-28; din-
ner) This sophisticated bistro fuses West Indian, East Indian and Latin flavors. Nights are
devoted to certain themes. Sunday and Monday are French-Caribbean, so you might find
short ribs with red wine pan gravy. Wednesday and Thursday are Latin, so maybe you'll
see ceviche. Friday and Saturday are for curries, so you'll fork into a coconut or spicy red
concoction (these are good nights for vegetarians). The chefs can add wine pairings or a
rum-tasting flight. The appetizers are all West Indian street foods.
Island Blues BURGERS $$
( 340-776-6800; www.island-blues.com ; Rte 107; mains $8-14; lunch & dinner;
) Let's see: we have bay views, coconut-lime drinks, juicy burgers and grilled cheese
sandwiches, live music and lots of locals hanging out. Oh, and free wi-fi (ask the staff for
the password). It adds up to a sweet deal on Coral Bay's waterfront, by Coccoloba Plaza.
Shipwreck Landing BURGERS, SEAFOOD $$
( www.shipwrecklandingstjohn.com/index.htm ; Rte107;mains$8-18; lunch&din-
ner) This is a laid-back, dimly lit place to drink, play darts and nosh on the small menu
of burgers and seafood dishes. The blackened Cajun shrimp and daily fish special draw a
crowd of locals who sit on the deck overlooking the bay. There's live music most weekends
and Wednesdays. It's in Coral Bay a short distance beyond Coccoloba Plaza.
Larry's Tourist Trap CAFE $
( 340-774-0912; www.wedontneednostinkingwebsite.com ; Rte107;mains$5-12;
11am-6pm Tue-Sat) Larry is quite the character, and his quirky yellow snack shack re-
flects it. It's a teeny place with a smattering of plastic tables and chairs where you can eat
Larry's hot dogs and fish tacos. If nothing else, stop for a drink (to no one's surprise, he has
home-brewed beer available). It's a great place to fortify before tackling Salt Pond Bay, or
refresh after. Take Rte 107 south out of Coral Bay; the Tourist Trap is right before you get
to Salt Pond Bay.
Cafe Concordia INTERNATIONAL $$
( 340-693-5855; www.maho.org ; mains $17-25; breakfast & dinner Tue-Sat)
