need pressurized systems as they lack the ability to breathe with enough
sustained forced. For infants, a completely enclosed protective environ-
ment that surrounds the child's upper body is available; it allows the child
to feel more comfortable and move the upper body freely while wearing
the mask. These masks provide clean air over-pressure protection to chil-
dren. The infant model comes in a convenient storage and carry case.
Both units will operate at peak efficiency for 10 hours in a contaminated
environment. Both also provide protection against NBC threats and allow
wearers to drink safely while wearing the mask or module.

Besides discussing protective measures, it is necessary to briefly discuss
defensive measures. In most countries, foreign nationals are not author-
ized to possess a firearm. In some countries, however, resident Americans
can own weapons for sporting purposes. The question of whether to own
a weapon for self-protection is an emotionally charged one. In addition,
should an American use a firearm to kill a would-be attacker in the home,
adverse legal consequences may ensue. Unless the individual has a high
level of firearms proficiency and clearly understands the local law regard-
ing the use of deadly physical force, the decision is simple: It is probably
preferable to engage the services of a local and vetted guard service that
can provide armed guards if necessary. In many countries, the cost of
hiring such a service to protect a neighborhood or apartment complex is
very reasonable, even more so when the cost is shared among a group of
families and individuals.
If you are an executive and you are considering the addition of armed
security personnel to protect your facility, you have a much bigger job
ahead of you. It is insufficient merely to hire locals with weapons and feel
as if you will be well protected. All security personnel need to be well
trained; armed security guards need an even higher level of training. Not
only will you need to follow all local laws relative to the establishment of
such a guard force, but your company will need to make a commitment to
hiring the best instructors available to teach the staff to become proficient
with firearms and tactics. Remember that these skills are perishable; if
training and retraining are not conducted on a regular basis, these skills
