In-Depth Information
Any team using a counterassault vehicle to protect the principal's vehi-
cle should also utilize tactical vests. In the event of an armed attack, the
counterassault team will engage the assailants long enough for the prin-
cipal to be evacuated. Also, if your company is operating in a region where
an armed incursion into your facility is a real possibility, management
should consider training some of the security staff in hostage rescue meth-
ods, such as establishing a defensive perimeter. These individuals, besides
needing proper training in the use of the appropriate weaponry, must be
outfitted with tactical body armor.
BALLISTIC HELMETS
In addition to SBA and rifle-resistant plates, other protective products
should be considered for certain applications. The first indispensable
item in this category is a ballistic helmet. If you recall from the analysis
of the law enforcement shooting fatalities, more than half the cops killed
in the line of duty were shot in the head. Anyone facing any potential risk
of being caught in a firefight is at the same risk. For war correspondents
reporting from regions where artillery is falling nearby, it is critical that
they wear an appropriate helmet. Reporters often are right in the middle
of battles, bombings, or sniper situations. David Miller of Fox News was
scant yards away outside of Jerusalem in 2001 as a sniper shot and criti-
cally wounded an Israeli soldier. If you report on this type of action, you
know the dangers without us having to tell
you. What you may not know is how effective
the armor that you are relying on to save
your life actually is.
Excellent ballistic helmets are available
from RBR Tactical Products, Inc. The hel-
met shown in Exhibit 9.7 is a new design,
which does not use bolts to secure the sus-
pension system.
This is a level IIIA helmet, which can
be upgraded to defeat rifle rounds by the
addition of a special insert. These helmets
are the product of choice of the best law
enforcement and military tactical units in
the world and are suitable for use by war
