Diagnostic Characters

Small-sized loach, subcylindrical and
slightly curved downwards anteriorly; area in
front of the pelvic fi ns fl attened, head depressed,
nostrils close together, membranous fl ap of
anterior nostril produced in the form of nasal
barbel, barbels longer than the eye, lips fl eshy
and continuous, upper jaw produced into beak-
like truncated process while lower notched,
eyes almost in anterior half of the head, dorsal
origin variable and its 2nd branched ray lon-
gest (not produced), caudal fi n slightly emar-
ginated and shorter than the head; scales
minute, body mostly devoid of scales, lateral
line incomplete. Body pale with 22-23 dark
vertical bars on lateral side and a darker one at
