DRINKING
Nightlife in Tana has been relatively quiet since the coup. The busiest nights are Thursday
to Sunday.
Manson BAR
(Rue Ramanantsoa) Manson wouldn't look out of place in Paris or London, so it should
come as no surprise that this is the venue of choice for Tana's expat community. We like
the graffiti decor outside, and the music inside is pretty good.
Bar Mojo BAR
(Rue Victoire Rasoamanarivo) A cool music space replete with crimson walls and oversize
seats. DJs and bands often play at the weekend. It's suffered slightly from the popularity of
Manson.
Buffet du Jardin BAR
(Place de l'Indépendance; 24hr) This long-standing snack stop and bar is a favourite
with taxi drivers; the terrace is a nice, low-key place for a beer.
Kudéta LOUNGE
(15 Rue de la Réunion) Tana's coolest restaurant doubles up as a bar/lounge in the evening,
with fancy cocktails and expensive beer.
ENTERTAINMENT
To find out what's going on and where, buy any of the three national daily newspapers
- Midi Madagasikara , Madagascar Tribune and L'Express de Madagascar - all of which
have advertisements for upcoming events, particularly in the Friday issue. Posters around
town also give plenty of notice of forthcoming concerts. Other good resources include
the free fortnightly listings Sortir à Tana ( www.sortiratana.com ) and No Comment
( www.nocomment.mg ) , which you will find in every hotel and restaurant in town.
Most nightclubs in Tana are packed with prostitutes, so unaccompanied guys can expect
a bit of unsolicited attention.
Le Café de la Gare CINEMA
( 22 611 12; www.cafetana.com ; Gare Soarano; 9am-11pm; ) The stylish Café de
la Gare holds regular live music sessions as well as a cinema night every Sunday. Both the
