In-Depth Information
( 033 25 882 62; www.hotelstgermain.e-monsite.com ; Rue Ravelontsalama; d
Ar45,000; ) This attractive building near the French embassy is an excellent budget-
friendly choice. Rooms are pocket-size but bright and immaculate. There is a convivial bar/
breakfast room downstairs, and the friendly management will happily recommend restaur-
ants nearby.
Hôtel-Restaurant Shangaï HOTEL €€
( 2231472; www.shangai-hotel.com ; 4RueRainitovo;d/trAr50,000/65,000; )Unin-
spiring but thoroughly acceptable for the price, this family-run hotel in the embassy quarter
is a little musty but has a lovely front courtyard with tumbling bougainvillea and swaying
palms. Ask for a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor to make the best of the light and views of the
city.
Villa Isoraka GUESTHOUSE €€€
( 24 220 52; demay.christophe@yahoo.fr; Rue Raveloary; d Ar80,000-100,000, without
bathroom Ar50,000-65,000; ) There are just five rooms in this beautiful French town-
house, a hotel-restaurant that was given a facelift in 2011. Two of the rooms don't have
windows and feel a little claustrophobic, but all rooms share the same modern design, with
beige and chocolate colour themes and comfortable furnishings. The garden and dining
room are both exquisite for breakfast.
Hôtel Brajas BOUTIQUE HOTEL €€€
( 22 263 35; www.hotelbrajas.com ; 74 Rue Rainandriamapandry; d Ar85,000-100,000;
) A recent addition to Tana's hotel scene, the Brajas occupies a beautifully renovated,
three-storey building with sensational views of the capital. The rooms are an odd mix of
business and boutique, but for the comfort and the price, this is a trivial stylistic quibble.
Rooms with panoramic views are more expensive; don't worry if you miss out however,
since the bar and restaurant (specialising in Indian food) sport similar vistas.
Hôtel St Antoine HOTEL €€
( 033 21 597 19; www.hotelstantoine.e-monsite.com ; Rue Andrianary Ratianarivo;
d Ar55,000, without bathroom Ar35,000; ) Recently renovated, the St Antoine has
something of a Mediterranean feel, with its big patio and terracotta-colour walls. The 14
rooms vary in size, light and noisiness so ask to see a couple before you settle on one.
