In-Depth Information
There is a flat fee of Ar35,000 return for a guide for all three main treks. Food, including
for the guides and porters, is not included in these rates and is paid by the client.
All long-distance treks are fairly demanding and involve muddy stretches. At certain
times of the year you may be wading up to chest height over slippery rocks. Inquire at the
MNP office about trail conditions.
SLEEPING & EATING
There are designated camping grounds (camping Ar3000) all the way around the penin-
sula, including at Marofototra, Ambodilaitry, Ifaho and Cap Est. Grounds have wells and
shelters for tents, but you'll need to bring in all other equipment. Bottled water and ba-
sic supplies are usually available in bigger villages such as Mahalevona, Ampokafo and
Antanandavahely, but you will need to be self-sufficient with most food and water (bring a
purifier).
The three lodges occupy the same stretch of coast, near Tampolo on the southwestern
side of the peninsula. Access is generally by boat. We recommend purifying your water.
