Ar420,000) As the price suggests, this is the top hotel in the city, and the only one with this
level of finish. Only a year old, it offers elegantly appointed rooms with glass showers and
an attractive island-style decor, a beautiful indoor pool, a gym, a spa, and a posh restaurant.
Clients are a mix of business people and high-end tour groups.

( 53 314 33, 032 77 356 13; tsarisland@moov.mg; d Ar120,000, f Ar150,000) Finally,
the logical move we've been waiting for - a colonial mansion turned into a guesthouse,
withaswankrestaurant toboot.Thiswhite architectural gemfromthe1930shastwofloors
with a huge wrap-around balcony, and three nice rooms with large bathrooms and euro-
mattresses. Too bad on our visit the staff raised incompetence to the same high level.
Génération Hôtel HOTEL €€
( 57 220 22; Blvd Joffre; d Ar65,000; ) This slightly cluttered but genial hotel is
greatly helped by a resident group of local mining company employees, who rate it highly.
Rooms cleaned daily, English spoken, good food, and laundry are some of the benefits.
Hôtel Eden HOTEL €

Ar16,000) This popular backpackers' hotel is a good budget choice, with a mix of shared
and private bathrooms and helpful staff. Calypso Tours ( Click here ) is based here, so it's a
good place to organise a tour of the Canal des Pangalanes.
Hôtel Fréderic HOTEL €
( 53 347 40; Rue Lt Bérard; d Ar34,000; ) This good budget option on a quiet corner
has a mixture of tiled and parquet rooms with some fridges but no nets. Corner rooms 101
and 201 are easily the best seats in the house, with lots of light and great balconies. A pizza
restaurant and cabaret/piano bar are helpful additions.
Hôtel Les Flamboyants HOTEL €€
( 53 323 50, 032 71 093 51; hotelflamboyants@gmail.com; Blvd de la Libération; r with
fan/air-con Ar41,000/55,000; ) This is your typical concrete box hotel done moderately
well, with air-conditioning that is welcome in summer but sold to the unsuspecting when
unnecessary. Rooms are large, with decent balconies, but hot water struggles at times, as
does the staff.
