street across from the beach. The brightly painted rooms have nice tiled baths (but no nets),
and the amiable staff serves up good food. The two beachfront bungalows are a steal, with
crashing surf right outside your door.
Villa Scheridanne GUESTHOUSE €
( 032 69 687 10; d Ar30,000-40,000) Next to Orchidea Beach, this new pastel guest-
house has upper-storey rooms with beautiful balconies, and a cosy warmth. If it weren't for
the caged lemurs, we would make this our top choice.
Las Palmas BUNGALOW €€
( 88 920 87, 032 40 073 72; laspalmas.hotel@gmail.com; bungalows with air-con
Ar52,000; set menus Ar18,000; ) Another well-manicured property in a great location
across from the beach, offering nice rooms with great bathrooms and some bungalows.
For the budget-minded, there are two clean and incredibly cheap hotels near the large Hotel
Victoria on the main street, just two blocks from the beach. Hotel Flamboyant ( 032 40
639 20; d Ar12,000) has no sign, but is down the alley to the right of the Victoria, past the
gate, while Hotel Florencia ( 032 02 466 21; d Ar14,000-28,000) is one block closer to
town. La Terrasse ( 8am-1am), the Polynesian hut 200m from Victoria, has good Mala-
gasy seafood and fun karaoke at night. Boule d'Or ( 4pm-9m Tue-Sun), the mustard
building down the street opposite La Terrasse, is the only pizzeria.
INFORMATION
