SLEEPING
Les Bungalows d'Ambonara BUNGALOW €€€
( 86 613 67; www.nosy-be-holidays.com ; off Route de l'Ouest; bungalows Ar75,000;
) In a former coffee plantation, the bungalows of Ambonara are scattered in a luxuriant
garden, with a small green pool sitting in the middle of it all like an emerald in its case.
The whole place has been beautifully built and decorated using local materials such as
wood, stone, bamboo and raffia. Owner Jean-Michel is also a dab hand at rhum arrangé
(homemade rum with fruit inside) - he exports his creations across Madagascar - and you
can sample and buy his products here. To find it, head out in the direction of Ambatoloaka;
it is signposted on your right hand side, just before the Air Madagascar office.
