the centre of the Tsaranoro Valley, but the ambience isn't as nice, it's pricey, and full board
is mandatory (what if you wish to eat at Camp Catta?).
GETTING THERE & AWAY
Namoly Valley
The Namoly Valley is a nearly three-hour drive from Ambalavao, with
someiffybridges,butitisalsoascenictripthroughrockyhillcountryfullofsmallvillages,
rice paddies, and smiling children, and part ofthe whole experience. We met only one other
car on the way.
There is a toll of Ar3000 to Ar4000. The road has deteriorated and requires a 4WD. Sturdy
taxis-brousses leave Ambalavao for Namoly on Tuesday and Thursday from the western
side of the market.
Tsaranoro Valley
The Tsaranoro Valley entrance is further from Ambalavao (60km) but
takes the same amount of time (three hours) as part of the way is paved. There is at least
one toll of Ar3000 to Ar4000.
