tion and permits for the parks near Fianarantsoa. Permits can also be purchased at the parks
themselves.

GETTING THERE & AWAY
Air
There is an airport in Fianar, but no regularly scheduled flights.
Taxi-Brousse & Minibus
Frequent taxis-brousses connect Fianarantsoa with Ambositra (Ar7000, three hours), Ant-
sirabe (Ar14,000, six hours) and Antananarivo (Ar18,000, eight to nine hours).
Minibuses also go daily to Ambalavao (Ar2000, two hours), Ranohira (Ar9000, seven
hours) and on to Tuléar (Ar25,000, 11 hours). Departures from Fianarantsoa to Tuléar
are at around 5pm, arriving at about 4am the next day. Heading east there are multiple
vehicles daily between Fianarantsoa and Ranomafana (Ar4000, two hours) and Manakara
(Ar13,000, eight hours).
Train
Fianarantsoa is connected to Manakara on the eastern coast by the famous FCE (Fianarant-
soa-Côte Est) railway. Departures from Fianarantsoa are scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday
and Saturday at 7am, and from Manakara on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7am. There
