Chez Gaspard B&B €€

bungalows Ar42,000-85,000) This line of bungalows, in a scenic tropical setting stretching
along the river, are great value. Those furthest upstream are best, with No 14 a great family
room that holds five. Avoid the rooms attached to the church, however, which are also ren-
ted from here.
Hôtel Manja HOTEL €€
( 033 09 010 22; hotelmanja@gmail.com; bungalows Ar45,000, without bathroom
Ar20,000) There are two classes of bungalow here, some older weathered ones without
bath and some new ensuite cement ones that sit up high on a hill offering majestic views
- if you don't mind the stairs. The hotel's best asset is the gigantic wooden restaurant,
with a porch overlooking the river, which serves tasty, inexpensive Malagasy meals (mains
Ar5000).
Setam Lodge LODGE €€€
( 22 234 31; www.setam-madagascar.com ; d Ar160,000) This upmarket ecolodge has
outstanding attention to detail. The impressive reception and restaurant area features walls
of glass framing a gorgeous view of the forest below. However, for this price, the rooms
are on the Spartan side, and there is a golf-course feeling to the grounds that clashes with
the forest setting. Breakfast is Ar8000 to Ar10,000, and set menus are Ar35,000.
Ihary Hotel HOTEL €€
( 0341343457,0331285722,0320252698;iharyhotel@gmail.com; bungalowsfrom
Ar42,000) We loved Ihary's tranquil thatched-roof bungalows right on the river, with their
great views beyond. Bungalows are small, but very tidy and breezy with lots of windows.
The restaurant serves good food (mains from Ar6000), although it may take awhile.
Centrest Sejour HOTEL €€€
( 75 523 02; centrestsejour@gmail.com; d/f Ar110,000/160,000) This is a very calm,
peaceful, and tidy hotel, with a lush tropical garden filled with local flowers and trees. The
best rooms are down a sky-lit hallway that is kept spotless. The restaurant gets high marks,
and has a mostly French menu (mains from Ar6000). Guests can visit the hotel's private
reserve at Mahakajy, 9km away, which has chameleons and 80 species of orchid. English
is spoken.
