Letter 56
To employer, regarding the project manager
This letter is not suitable for use with SBC, DB OR GC/Works/1 (1998).
Dear
We write simply in order to clarify something. We note that you have
appointed a project manager. The contract makes no provision for such a
person, the key people in the contract being the employer, the contractor, the
architect and the quantity surveyor. It is obvious, if the project is to proceed
smoothly, that everyone should be aware of his or her role and the powers and
duties that go with it.
We shall, therefore, assume that the project manager is your own
representative and we should be grateful if you would advise him/her [ delete
as appropriate ] of the situation bearing in mind that only the architect may issue
instructions, certificates and extensions of time. If the project manager attends
site meetings, he/she [ delete as appropriate ] should not become involved unless
invited to do so by the architect or by us. We trust that you will agree the
importance of getting these points clear at the commencement of the project if
serious confusion is to be avoided.
If you disagree with our view of the situation, we should be grateful to receive
your own views as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully
