North Woolwich Road Footbridge: details
temperatures, the areas of the deck close to the piers and abutments were designed
as partially prestressed. The deck was equipped with a very beautiful handrail that
incorporated street lighting.
The reinforced concrete abutments were founded on an array of inclined micropiles
resisting the tension in the catenary of approximately 6500 kN.
Construction consisted in erecting fi rstly 8,180 mm long precast sections over the
two piers. The connection with the pier was then cast in-situ through a circular hole.
