Database Reference
In-Depth Information
Summary
This chapter covered tasks such as establishing OS variables, connecting to your database, and starting/stopping your
database. These operations are prerequisites for many DBA tasks, especially backup and recovery. When starting
your database, it's important to understand the phases that Oracle goes through and at what point the control file is
accessed and the data files and online redo logs are opened. Now that you have an understanding of these basics,
we're ready to move on to describe the Oracle files used when working with backup and recovery.
