13.Reina Sofía Museum, Madrid
Founded in 1988, the Reina Sofia is devoted to Contemporary Art. Since 2005 its collection
has been housed in a building by french architect Jean Nouvel , located near Atocha Station,
very close to the Prado and Thyssen museums.
Thecollectionfeaturesworksfrom1900throughtotoday,andincludesworksbyartistssuch
as Roy Lichtenstein , Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp . Works include paintings, sculp-
tures, movies, photographs and video installations.
Of course, its best-known work is Guernica , the huge black & white oil painting (3.5 meters
high per almost 8 meters wide) by Pablo Picasso. Considered one of the landmark works of
the Spanish genius, it's mix of the cubist and surrealistic styles, a powerful representation of
the suffering of war.
