12.Museo del Prado, Madrid
A true national treasure, Museo del Prado is largely considered to have a painting collection
thatrivalsthatoftheLouvre.Itcurrentlyhousesthan7,500paintings,ofwhicharound4,000
are shown to the public. Visitors will find numerous works by some of the most important
painters in Spanish history, like Diego Velázquez and Francisco de Goya , as well as prom-
inent European authors like Peter Paul Rubens Titian , and Hieronymus Bosch .
Displayingworld-widefamousworkslike LasMeninas and TheGardenofEarthlyDelights ,
the Museum also offers unexpected attractions such as an almost perfect copy of Leonardo's
Mona Lisa , considered to be the work most resembling the original painting's colors.
The museum is located next to Plaza de Cibeles, Retiro's Park and the Botanical Garden a
five-minute walk from Cibeles Metro Station.
