11. MUSAC, León
Since its inception, the MUSAC (Castille and León Museum of Contemporary Art) has been
defined as a “museum of the present,” aiming to present current western art, with special
emphasis on Spanish works. The art begins with the buildings themselves, a celebration of
color that won the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Architecture Award .
Once inside, visitors can see a collection of almost 1000 works, and revolving temporary
exhibitions. The museum offers workshops and courses related to contemporary art, as well
as meetings with artists. The exhibited pieces are widely varied, and range from traditional
media like paintings and sculpture, to video-installations, collages and photographs.
If you're in León, the MUSAC can be an interesting contrast the classic art of its cathedral.
