Plaza Mayor Christmas Market, Madrid
Arguably the most popular plaza in the capital after the Puerta delSol, the Plaza Mayor is a
great spot to have a drink or enjoy some tapas any time of year, but it is a particularly in-
teresting place to visit around Christmastime, as it becomes the site of a huge street market
devoted to all kinds of seasonal products.
The Christmas Market dates back to 1860, and has over 100 stalls. Visitors will find a huge
variety of tree ornaments, traditional Belén (nativity sets), Santa Claus hats, crazy costumes,
wigs, toys and fun holiday accessories.
The market is always a buzz, and typifies Christmas in Madrid. Of course, the tapas bars are
still there if you want to take a rest from the excitement of the market.
