Jurassic Museum of Asturias, Colunga
The Jurassic Museum of Asturias is like a trip in itself, leading visitors from the ancient
Earth to the start of human life. The building imitates the footprint of a dinosaur, and with a
good reason, as this museum has the most complete and varied collection of dinosaur foot-
prints in Europe. But visitors will find much more in its 20,000 square feet, with expositions
covering three big historical periods (Triassic, Jurassic and Cretacic), one for each area of
the building.
The different expositions give details about the characteristics of the dinosaurs, and they in-
clude 20 life-size detailed reproductions of these big reptiles. The museum is located in an
area rich with prehistoric remains, and visitors can also go to the actual paleontological sites
and see the footprints found there.
There are also temporary expositions, an auditorium, and several workshops. Due to the in-
terest of its pieces and its scientific rigor, the museum has become European favorite since
its opening in 2004.
