Free Museums
For centuries, Spanish monarchs hired the best artists of their time to create exceptional
works of art. In more recent years, Spanish geniuses such as Picasso , Sorolla and DalĂ
created masterpieces known the world over. Today, much of this tradition is accessible in
Spain's flourishing museums.
This chapter tells you how to access many of Spain's museums free of charge, be it by vis-
iting totally free museums or knowing how and when to get free access to paid museums.
Madrid alone has five world-class museums that offer days with free admittance. In Bar-
celona, there's the Picasso Museum. In Alcalá de Henares, the Cervantes' Birthplace Mu-
seum. It's all detailed in this chapter.
If you're lucky enough to be in Spain on May 18 th , take advantage of International Museum
Day , when access to most museums in the country is free.
Free days and admission can change easily, so make sure to check each attraction's website
before visiting.
