length and multiplying by 100 (percent). For rhesus macaques, we calcu-
lated the regression between latitude and relative tail length. We used Excel
(Microsoft Co. Ltd.) for statistical analyses.
Bushmeat markets were visited to record wildlife sold and to interview
shop-keepers about species, abundance, and frequency of trade. We visited
monkey farms in Bolikhamxay and Champasak Provinces, and interviewed
animal caretakers or observed primate species kept, number of individuals,
age classes, and acquisition manner. Additionally we interviewed village
people for monkey transportation or live macaque trade for monkey farms.
Results
Distribution and present status of long-tailed
and rhesus macaques in southern Laos
We interviewed 91people at 83 locations, inspected 20 pet long-tailed and
rhesus macaques, and observed one troop of free-ranging rhesus macaques.
