In-Depth Information
hope to provide in this chapter is not a manual of solutions, but a source of ideas
about aspects of management in areas of human-macaque conflict. We propose
that communities approach the issues of managing their human-macaque com-
munities, with peripheral support, guidance, and regulation from NGOs and gov-
ernmental agencies. Overall, it will be the communities that will be living with
the macaques. Therefore, the future of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of
long-tailed macaques in Southeast Asia, will depend on the tolerance, good will,
and innovative problem solving skills, of their neighboring human communities.
