demonstrations on macaque nuisance handling techniques have been given
to property management companies and other relevant government depart-
ments in the residential areas where macaque nuisance cases are reported.
Relevant posters and leaflets providing tips to handle nuisance macaques
have also been made available to concerned organizations and government
departments.
Conclusion
Hong Kong has adopted an integrated approach in dealing with macaque
nuisance which includes feeding bans, nuisance handling and a contra-
ceptive/neutering program, and public education. The decreasing trend
in the number of reported macaque nuisance cases since 2007 proves the
initial success of the above measures (see
Figure 12.3
)
. Through these
continued measures we believe macaque nuisance will be effectively
managed.
