Measures to deal with macaque nuisance
Feeding ban
In view of growing complaints about macaques, in 1998 the Hong Kong
Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) imple-
mented a management plan for wild macaques in Hong Kong in 1999 which
included various measures. In order to help wild macaques revert from reli-
ance on human provisioning to natural food foraging in the countryside,
a ban on feeding wild macaques, known as the Wild Animals Protection
Ordinance (Cap 170) was introduced in 1999. This law has helped reduce
