Human-macaque conflict
Conflict-related or nuisance behavior of M. fascicularis at the UKM main
campus was classified into six categories as shown in Table 4.3 . Taking items
from trash bins (21.9-47.9 percent) and littering corridor areas (22.7-48.4
percent) were among the highest percentage of behavior caused by macaques.
Mostly, rubbish was taken out of garbage cans by macaques, carried out and
thrown along corridors in the student residences. Entering into rooms (1.2-
20.0 percent), taking items (1.3-11.5 percent) and disturbing people (1.5-19.5
percent), were also among the nuisance problems caused by the long-tailed
macaques in the Burhanuddin Helmi Residential College, Aminuddin Baki
Residential College, Ibu Zain Residential College and Ibrahim Yaakob
Residential College. Entering cafeteria (1.3 percent) and damaging facil-
ities (0.9 percent) were among the lowest percentage of nuisance behavior
observed in the UKM main campus.
